Victor is one of our heroes. He is a World War 2 veteran who survived incarceration in a Japanese PoW camp. When a Forgotten Heroes volunteer first met Victor and his wife Marion, they were living in poverty, in a home without heating and barely enough to stay warm and fed.
The Forgotten Heroes has been able to make sure that Victor receives the benefits he is entitled to. He has a war pension, and a fully centrally-heated house. They hadn't slept in their bed for years as they couldn't get up the stairs. They now have a stair lift. They haven't been able to use the bathroom so had been making do with stripwashes. They now have a wet-room shower. We were able to arrange the replacement of his campaign medals which were stolen in a burglary.
Sadly, Marion, a former Women’s Land Army girl, passed away recently, and Victor is cared for by his daughter-in-Law. We've just arranged with 'Holidays for Heroes' for them to go on a respite break in Scotland. |
